NEW YORK — AUSTRALIAN-born Canadian singer to make her US debut has been tapped to sing “The Pure World” in the lead role of the new Disney film “Beauty and the Beast.”
The movie, based on the classic 1937 Disney animated classic “Beautiful and the Beasts,” is scheduled to debut next week at the Venice Film Festival.
It will be the first American-made film to use the English-language soundtrack.
The film will follow the adventures of Beast, a teenage girl who is sent to live with a human boy and her two best friends in a castle that is made of pure water.
It’s been the subject of many a debate, with critics complaining about the lack of any female characters.
But there has been a lack of original voices for the character in the past.
